Reserve Your Group Study & Collaborative Spaces

Group study rooms are now kept unlocked. You no longer need to checkout a key at the Service Desk after reserving a room.

Group study rooms are reserved:

  • For a period of up to two hours per day.
  • By any current UNM student, faculty, or staff member.
  • Up to a week ahead via our self-serve online room reservation system.

Collaborative spaces are specialized study rooms that:

  • Provide access to research software and specialized equipment.
  • May differ in the number of hours per day for which they may be reserved.
  • Are reserved via our self-serve online room reservation system.

Reserve Your Individual Locked Rooms (2 Week Cubbies & Semester Lairs)

The libraries offer a limited number of individual locked rooms (2 Week Cubbies & Semester Lairs) to current UNM students, enrolled in degree-granting programs, who are engaging in intensive research and study.

Each room contains a desk (some with drawers and some with a shelf), chair, and power outlet. Some rooms may have an active Ethernet port. Wireless internet access is available at each library. Assignment periods of up to one semester are available.

The 2 Week Cubbies and Semester Lairs are individual locked rooms and you will be issued a key for the duration of your room assignment.


Short term rooms (2 Week Cubbies) are reserved:

  • For a period of two weeks.
  • By any student enrolled in a degree-granting program.
  • On a first-come, first-served basis.
  • During the academic term (applications accepted this fall starting August 7th).
  • Via our self-serve online room reservation system.

Long term rooms (Semester Lairs) are reserved:

  • For the length of the semester.
  • By individual graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program.
  • Semester Lairs are assigned first to doctoral students enrolled in 699 dissertation hours and master's students working on their thesis / final project.
  • During Open Enrollment, from August 7th through September 1st (and throughout the semester pending availability).
  • Via an application that must be submitted online.

Semester Lair application process:

  • After receiving your application, we will review it and strive to contact you within 3 business days with an update.
  • Priority is given to applicants enrolled in 699 dissertation hours or are working on your thesis / final project. Priority applicants will be assigned a Semester Lair (if one is available).
  • All other applications by graduate students will be evaluated at the end of Open Enrollment in the order they were received.
  • A waiting list will be maintained through the semester. Waiting lists are only good for the current semester; you must re-apply at the start of each semester during Open Enrollment.

Reserve Your Semester Lockers

Lockers are available to current UNM students on a first-come, first-served basis in two sizes. Daily lockers with refundable quarters are available at Parish Memorial Library on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Semester Lockers are reserved:

  • For the length of the semester.
  • By current UNM students.
  • On a first-come, first-served basis.
  • During the academic term (accepted this fall starting August 7th).
  • Via our self-serve online room reservation system.

Graduate Student Commons

The University Libraries and the Graduate and Professional Students Association partnered to create a dedicated space for graduate students in Zimmerman Library.

  • Located just off the Zimmerman Library first floor lobby.
  • Open during normal library hours, and available exclusively to UNM graduate students.
  • A quiet study space with tables and desk chairs, as well as comfortable armchairs.
  • Lockers are available along one wall.
  • Wireless access and electrical outlets so you can use your own computer or mobile device.
  • Alternatively, you can check out a laptop from the library and use it within the space.

Quiet Spaces

There are several study areas that are quiet spaces:

  • Zimmerman Library - West Wing & Willard Room
  • Zimmerman Library - Study carrels on 2nd & 3rd floor
  • Centennial Science & Engineering Library - West wing (periodicals area) of Lower Level 1
  • Parish Memorial Library - Study carrels around the perimeter of Lower Level 2
